Mass Effect Chronicles - Deduction (Alpha Story Teaser)

It is midnight in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by earth standard; Australia and Asia have been celebrating for some time, Europe and Africa are in the process of doing so and North and South America will greet the new year in a couple of hours.

We talked about a treat (also know as The Triit) a few times here and there for New Year and here it is:

Remember the 'treat' that we have been talking about? The one that we have been cooking for the past couple of weeks? Well it's out. And unfortunately it's not edible. Instead, it's a teaser that introduces you to the storyline that you will be following in the alpha. Minor warning: it is a bit spoilerific, but nothing that wouldn't have been revealed in the very beginning of the alpha. If you don't want to read any further spoilers stop now. If you do want, then watch the video.

Mass Effect Chronicles - Deduction

Vazill is a turian soldier. During the years of service he has seen many dead bodies, but now he has to go to the Citadel to claim the remains of his brother Vrohax who died under suspicious circumstances. Sign up for the alpha and experience the beginning of Mass Effect Chronicles, a game made by fans for fans.

DevBlog #8

Hey there, everyone.

December has been an exciting month!

A lot of work has been put into the alpha, and we also have been working on a small treat for you! In case that you haven't noticed , sign-ups for the alpha have started! Even though you'll be able to download the alpha fine without signing up, you will lose the chance to experience exclusive content, so go ahead and sign up now!

Now, the alpha itself should be out at some point during early 2011, so we are looking forward for your feedback. If you don't believe in Santa Claus (>.>) and didn't get a present on Christmas you'll still get a small one in the form of a teaser trailer on New Year's Day! A small playthrough with commentary is in the works as well, so check the forum now and then for more updates!

For now, this devblog will be feauturing the Dupree Market, one of the locations that Vazill will be visiting in the alpha.

The Citadel houses a myriad of shopping areas; some specialized, some offer a little bit of everything. The Dupree Market falls into the latter category: whether you shop for armor, weapons, tech-equipment or mining accessories you'll find it here.

Aside from offering something for everyone, it has additional advantages: to begin with the Dupree Market suffered little damage during the Geth attack in 2183 and is still fully functional. It is also located near a heavily frequented custom area and well connected to the public transportation system of the Citadel. Thanks to the nearby C-Sec offices the Dupree Market is one of the shopping areas with the lowest crime rates on the Citadel.

Within walking distance you'll also find the Presidium with it's extensive artificial lake and recreational areas. However, if you prefer to danec through the night or enjoy a night at the clubs, you'll also find what you're looking for.

Finally, remember the treat that we have been talking about? Here is a part of it:

Alpha Sign-Ups

Greetings everyone,

It is with great pleasure that we can open the Alpha Sign-Ups now!

Signing up for the Alpha is extremely easy as you only have to reply to the Alpha Sign-Up thread on the MEC forums and you'll be added to the special tester group.

The Alpha itself will come early 2011 - granted things go according to plan - and then you can get a sneak peak at how the game will work and experience it for yourselves:
- have conversations
- explore the galaxy (okey, a rather small part of the galaxy for now...)
- use the mining system to earn money
- go shopping to get better equipment
- complete some assignments
- or engage in battles

We are eager to hear what you think of the game:
comments, compliments, critique - let's hear it when you played through!

And to reward those who signed up for the Alpha on the MEC forum and help us improve the game, there will be a special version of the Alpha including an additional shop with extra equipment; additionally they will receive bonus content in the final game.
Alpha Sign-Ups will stay open for the duration of Alpha testing and we will ensure to notify people beforehand that the testing will come to an end in a DevBlog.

In-between the usual X-Mas preparations, don't forget that another DevBlog is around the corner. Behind the scenes we're busy working on a special treat, so let's see if "X marks the spot".

Last but not least, to celebrate the Alpha Sign-Ups there are some new avatars available. More will be added over time, so keep your eyes peeled.

You can now select your avatars with ease using our new Select Avatar function!

Best wishes

DevBlog # 7

Greetings everyone,

We are happy to announce that the Alpha will be released early 2011 and respectively the Alpha sign ups will open in December;
These may be subject to change if there are any major RL interferences or Reaper invasions and the like, but we are hopeful to keep the dates ;)

This DevBlog will focus on some of the characters you will encounter on the Citadel when playing the Alpha.
Some of them are optional, though some just can't be avoided, so if you would like to go into the Alpha unspoiled, you might want to stop reading now
.
.
.
last chance
.
.
.
okey, here we go...

C-Sec :

Carlos Miller

Carlos Miller was one of many humans who joined C-Sec after the Battle of the Citadel. He comes from a family of cops back on Earth, where he himself had worked in law enforcement. After some additional training he was recently accepted into the ranks of C-Sec.While he's doing his best to work with aliens, he's still a bit awkward around them and might accidentially insult them.

T'Nevis

If there are any questions you have for C-Sec, T'Nevis is the one to go to. She'll relay you to her respective colleagues for specific questions or if someone could use a hand with something. She's a very helpful and open-minded individual and will attempt to convince you to 'do the right thing'.

Vanerus
Vanerus joined C-Sec after finishing service in the turian military. Seriousness and doing things by the book are the traits that first come to mind when his colleagues describe him, though there are exceptions. He's strongly opposing the rise of humans after the Battle of the Citadel and clinging to the thought of turians as galactic peacekeepers as it had been since the times of the Krogan Rebellions.

merchants :

Dwayne Haller

sells : omni-tools & bio-amps
Dwayne Haller has his own ways to combine being a member of Terra Firma with being a merchant in the Dupree Market on the Citadel. Sweet-talking some customers and harassing others. The latter often causes friction with the other merchants in the Dupree Market as they fear his behaviour upsets their own customers, on top of being the target of his anit-alien rants themselves.

Gaxyera

sells : weapons
Gaxyera is an expert when it comes to weapons, owing to the fact that she had worked as a mercenary for over two centuries. She makes it a point to test all the weapons she's selling. It may be her approaching matron stage, but she tends to point out safety rules and tipps for combat on occasion.

Nan Bolan

sells : ships & shuttles
Nan Bolan is what some might consider a typical volus merchant. Though it would be unfair to reduce him to that, as there's more than meets the eye, both good and bad. He's very knowledgable when it comes to the ships he's selling. While their shops aren't in the same area, he often clashes with Dwayne Haller, who enjoys insulting the volus on the way to work.

Vento Zil

sells : armor
Vento Zil had a well-running enterprise on Omega until a few months ago. After some 'complications' he decided it would be better to leave the station before ending up dead. Eventually he decided it's best to leave the Terminus alltogether and move to the Citadel. Since he never did anything illegal in Citadel space he can now live here as a respected citizen – protected by C-Sec from any mercs who might venture here and try to settle some old scores. However, old habits die hard and it's only a matter of time before he'll run into trouble again.

Volaen

sells : mines & maps
Volaen comes from a family of miners, however he's neither technically savy enough to handle the mining equipment, nor does he have any sense for management. By chance Volaen displayed some talent for business though and it was decided he should handle the acquisition of new equipment. Soon people came for him to get tips where to get the best equipment for the lowest price and eventually Volaen opened a shop for mining equipment on the Citadel.

DevBlog # 6

Greetings everyone,

Originally we intended to start a series of feature features with this DevBlog to give you a little insight into the features you'll enounter in the game. In case of the fighting system there would have been a poll to choose between the dynamic mode and the static mode.
The good news is, you'll be able to choose whichever of those two you prefer at the beginning of the game yourselves.
The bad news is... well, since the poll is obsolete now, you won't get to see the modes in action in order to choose just yet.

But we've prepared some goodies for you on the website:
go to mechronicles.com > mec > downloads to get wallpapers with some of Dandzialf's motives or the MEC logo in various resolutions.

And if you're wondering: 'Who is this Dandzialf who draws those awesome images?' here's some info on our go-to-guy for promotional art:

Dandzialf
Job : Artist (promotional art & concepts)
Featured Art : http://dandzialf.deviantart.com/#/d319chw
Artistic History : "I haven't been drawing since I was a little child and I never learned any fine arts... I'm a typical autodidact. My main medium is a graphic tablet and ofc photoshop and painter :) Sometimes I use a pencil and a scanner but usually I do the entire image on PC :) "
Deviantart : http://dandzialf.deviantart.com

We'll see you on the Citadel, once you docked your vessel and manage to get through C-Sec customs... and if you're ever lost, just ask an Avina near you!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
We apprechiate the help the alpha-testers provide and there will be a reward for alpha testers, however in order to keep track and provide a way for us to distribute the reward you'll need to register on the MEC forum and post in the respective alpha sign-up thread which will open shorty before alpha is released.

DevBlog # 5

Greetings everyone,

this issue of the DevBlog focuses on the character of Vazill, whom you will play in the Intro mission of Mass Effect Chronicles. This intro will also serve as the tutorial mission, so when you're restarting the game, you can get straight into the games, without 'learning' how to use the game again. Because of it's introductory character we decided to take the entire Intro mission and release it as the Alpha for you to test the game's features and familiarize yourself with it.

Vazill

Species : Turian
Personality : Brawler, doesn't care what anyone thinks. A hardcase.
Organization : Turian Military
Status : Weapons Expert

After the obligatory service in the turian military, Vazill had opted to continue working in the military. He's a versatile expert when it comes to weapons. Because of his personality he works best alone or in small teams. Over the years he had often worked with Morwin, a tech-expert with biotic skills, and during that time has established a friendship with him despite their contrasting personalities.
Vazill certainly is a fighter to the core, but lacks the ability to lead - and on occasion has an unwillingness to be led. However, it would be fatal to consider him merely a mindless fighting machine, given the circumstances he displays a talent for improvisation as well; admittedly those improvisations often include the use of explosives, but they get the job done.

Tune in again next month when we will reveal a little bit more about the Alpha!

best wishes

DevBlog # 4

Greetings everyone,

this summer Real Life has assumed direct control of the lives of many of the team, thus updates had been rather sporadic.
We plan on bringing you new editions of the DevBlogs at the end of the month from now on, usually on the last weekend of a month, however the exact date and time might vary a bit. You can stay informed on DevBlog updates and other news by joining MEC on Facebook, following us on Twitter, visiting the Forums or having a look at the MEC DevBlog Blog

next stop: Alpha
As you know Mass Effect Chronicles has spread from the Turian Project to include three stories that feature a turian, a salarian and an asari. However rather then going through a tutorial-like beginning with each of them, we decided to put an additional intro-mission up front. So once completed you can dig your teeth right into the main game(s). The Alpha will include this intro/tutorial and thus allow the players to encounter a variety of game-play elements from dialog to battles to the gathering of resources and more.
To honor the game's roots as the Turian Project you will assume the role of a turian called Vazill who some of you might remember from the pre-Alpha. Keep your eyes open for DevBlog # 5 when we will reveal more about the character.
Date for Alpha sign-ups opening to follow.

In the meantime have some fun on the Citadel by visiting the recreational areas or enjoying yourself in one of the clubs.

best wishes

Greetings everyone from myself and the entire MEC team! We have dedicated a large portion of our lives to bring you a compelling story based on the existing Mass Effect games. In the Mass Effect Chronicles, you will play as three different species; Turian, Asari, and Salarian. While I can't reveal the story for you, I can give you a few things to expect from our team and the game itself.

-3 Playable characters (Each being a different species)
-Several recruitables (Both combative and non-combative)
-An interesting and compelling story that stays true to the Mass Effect games and heeds their historical references and data.
-Ability to visit locations from ME1, ME2 and several unique to this game.
-100% unique-to-this-game artwork and game art.
-An interesting mining system. (No planet spinning this time... sorry ;) )
-Planetary exploration.
-Paragon/Renegade system.
-Love interest system.
-An upgradable ship.
-Much, much more!

One of our main goals is to make this game a logical extension of the Mass Effect universe. With Alpha on its way, you'll finally have a chance to test this game out in its infancy. The best way to make sure you are included in the Alpha release is to be a part of the forums.

I must admit, we have been up to something...
In the darkest reaches of space, we've been working on something special.
And it is with much pride and pleasure that I reveal this secret to you.

Without further ado, I present to you....

The Mass Effect Chronicles Website !

Take some time and discover what we've been working on. Also, if you're a fan of Mass Effect, and want to help with the creation of this fan-game, take a stroll over to our new 'Jobs' section! Without people just like you, this game wouldn't even exist.

Also, please make sure to set your favorites at http://www.mechronicles.com instead of http://www.turianproject.com. Accessing the forums via the turianproject.com website will result in no stored username and passwords (making you sign in each time you visit).

This wouldn't be much of a development blog without a few screenshots.

Looking at the sun can be bad for your eyes.
Ah, welcome to the presidium, and our new menu system. (Trees are not original yet, but will be soon.)
A look at the statistics page.

There is still much to come, so grab a seat, register on the forums, and hang on to your butts; you're in for a ride. Oh...and please don't feed the space goats...they can get cranky.

What would you do if you could go back to the Citadel, Omega, and other locations within the Mass Effect™ universe; this time in the shoes of a Turian? While the answer will be up to you, we plan on making this more than just a question. Eventually, when these Dev Blogs are obsolete, you will have the opportunity to tell us exactly how your experience as a Turian went.
We’ve been hard at work to bring you the best gameplay experience possible within our 2D version of Mass Effect™. A majority of our recent work has been in the art department thanks to these amazing artists!

Fuel-Reaver
Job : Concept Artist / Cutscene Artist
Featured Art : link
Artistic History : I’ve been drawing since before I can remember, was always scribbling away at school as a kid, doodling during lessons, as well as drawing my own characters or pre existing ones all the time! I enjoy and dabble in many art mediums, but there is just nothing quite like bringing a character or world to life with pen, pencil or brush on paper!

Scooter
Job : Tileset Artist
Featured Art : link
Artistic History : I've easily been doing art since around 2003, high school art is a joke. I more or less started photography. I do it for enjoyment, and I want to be a game artist as a 3D modeler but with the current state of the Australian game industry it seems unlikely to happen soon. I'm actually have qualifications in Photography, Design, and Game Art.

Dear Community, Fans, and Casual Observers,

A few weeks ago we released a tiny preview of the Mass Effect Chronicles to the public. This small demo helped to show the dedication and capabilities of our newly founded team with a mere weeks worth of work. The pre-alpha demonstrated combat, movement, dialogue (though rushed), menu systems, and other basic game play elements. Thanks to all the interest in pre-alpha testing, we were given a plethora of responses detailing strong and weak points, bugs, and helpful suggestions. With those suggestions in mind, we have been hard at work to bring you an enjoyable Alpha demo in the coming months.

Team Feature
We are very lucky to have such a talented group of individuals working on this project. Two new additions to our team, Rix Raw and Treesnogger, have volunteered to create an original sound track to accompany the game.

Rix Raw never studied music, but began experimenting with it as he was inspired by his brother's music and the demo scene of the middle-late nineties. The year 2000 saw the start of his more serious attempts and a few years ago he updated his arsenal with a midi controller and started teaching himself to play the keyboard. You can hear some of his songs on his Myspace.
Also, be sure to check out this track made by Rix Raw Here!

Treesnogger has been making music for around 5 or 6 years and has been recording music for 4 years. His work on a few ambient soundtracks can be heard here. He also plays in a few bands such as ClickDeleteYes. "I'm still just an amateur..." he said when asked about his musical history. "...it's just my hobby."
Check out this track made by Treesnogger Here!

Features
Along with the original sound track, the Alpha will include;
-An immersing Story
-Paragon/Renegade System
-New locations (And some you may recognize)
-Characters of many different species to interact with
-New cut scenes
-Improved game play elements
-And a few surprises

Previews
Lastly, I would like to introduce our first 'Character Profile'. Those of you who played the pre-alpha should recognize this individual.

Please, if you have not already, join the forums and show us some love. We are always open to suggestions and new ideas, plus, we'd like to get to know you!

Until next time, take care and avoid angry Krogans.

~Norton
